Urbanization Watch: The cycle of poverty that is driving urbanisation

A momentous tipping point was reached in 2007, when for the first time more people live in towns and cities than in rural areas. It is estimated that more than 90% of future urban growth will be in developing countries - mainly Africa and Asia. This blog is devoted to highlighting the negative impacts of urbanisation and the many constraints to improving prosperity in rural areas, in an effort to slow down or even reverse this urbanisation trend: We rely on smallholder farmers, the world over, to produce more than 50% of our food and yet policy-makers are saying that increased urbanisation is 'inevitable'.
